In a series of tweets on Tuesday, The Department of State Services linked Mr. Maxwell Okpara and his team of lawyers, accusing the Director-General of the DSS of contempt of court for being an affiliate of the Indigenous People of Biafra, and questioned if they were out to defend one of theirs (Godwin Emefiele).
The tweet further described Okpara Maxwell and his team as “Charge and bail lawyers; overzealous and uninformed IPOB/Eastern Security Network lawyers,” adding that Okpara and his team of mobilised like-minded lawyers are against Yusuf Bichi, the secret police head.
The post cautioned Nigerians against the intention of the lawyers, attributing it to bad faith and a transfer of aggression.
“A Biafran Republic agitator and Outlawed IPOB counsel defending the suspended CBN Governor Is IPOB defending one of theirs? The tweet reads.
Meanwhile, the embattled former CBN governor, Godwin Emefiele, had judgements in his favour calling for his release, which the DSS has refused to carry out; this largely informed the approach of the courts by Okpara Maxwell and his team of lawyers, charging Bichi for fragrant violation of court rulings and infringement of the former Apex bank chief’s fundamental rights.
