The principal officers of the 10th Senate have emerged, with the Senate President, Godswil Akpabio, announcing the names of Opeyemi Bamidele as the Senate Majority Leader (Ekiti Central) and Senator David Umahi as the Deputy Majority Leader (Ebonyi South).
Others who emerged from the party with a majority in the chamber are Senator Ali Ndume, Chief Whip, and Senator Lola Ashiru, Deputy Whip, from Borno South and Kwara South constituencies, respectively.
As of the time of filing this report, the principal offices from the minority parties in the house were yet to be announced; positions largely believed to come from the People’s Democratic Party, which in recent times had disagreements on who should occupy these positions because of the divisions witnessed in the party during and after the Presidential election.
