229 suspected persons that have allegedly taken part in the mayhem that preceded the violent and killings at the Lekki Toll Plaza in Lagos during the week have been arrested by the Lagos State Ministry of Justice.
In a statement by the Ministry’s Director of Public Affairs, Mr. Kayode Oyekanmi made available to newsmen on Saturday said the suspects would be prosecuted as they took advantage of the #EndSars protest to loot and destroy public and private properties in various locations in the state.
In a similar development, The state Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), Mrs. Olayinka Adeyemi told journalists that the directorate has gone round police formations in the state to evaluate relevant files of persons arrested by the police to determine individuals that have prima facie case raised against them.
The DPP head said “ “So far, 229 suspects have been arrested by the police for various criminal offenses ranging from arson, murder, stealing, malicious damage of properties and assault before and after the state-wide curfew.”
“The curfew was imposed by Lagos State Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Oct. 20 to restore law and order in the state.”
The commissioner of Justice in the state, Mr. Moyosore Onigbanjo (SAN) implored residents to keep the peace, law, and order in their respective communities while restating the overall commitment of the Sanwo-Olu’s administration in maintaining law and order in the state.
On the suspects’ prosecution, the Justices ministry said after due evaluation, persons with cases to answer would be prosecuted while those without cases would be set free.
