President Mohammadu Buhari has appointed Abdulrasheed Bawa as the substantive Chairman of The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
In a statement released by Femi Adesina, Special Adviser to the President on media and publicity, Buhari sent an official request to the Senate asking for the confirmation of Bawa as the substantive Chairman of the anti-graft agency.
In a letter to the Senate President, Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan, Buhari said he is acting according to the provisions of Paragraph 2 (3) of Part 1, CAP E1 of EFCC Act 2004.
The appointment of Bawa is coming at a time the former head of the commission, Ibrahim Magu has been implicated in series of financial impropriety and illegal sales of the commission’s confiscated wealth.
It is also the first time the agency will have a youth as its head, a complete departure from using old guards to lead the commission.
Bawa is a very intelligent officer of the commission with wide-ranging experiences in graft investigation and prosecution.
His coming on board would be regarded as a strong appeal to Nigerian youths who have called for a total reform of the agency and other institutions that fight graft in the country.
