An Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court on Thursday sentenced a 36-year-old man, Ibrahim Adamu, to one year in prison for stealing 36.9g of gold worth N461,000.
The Magistrate , Mr Muhibah Olatunji, convicted Adamu on two counts of conspiracy and theft.
Olatunji did not give the convict an option to pay a fine.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Insp. Sunday Osanyintuyi, told the court that Adamu, committed the offence on March 8, 2018 at No 70, Obalufon St., Ile-Ife.
Osanyintuyi said that the convict broke into a shop belonging to Mr Oladepo Lateef and stole the gold.
The defendant had pleaded not guilty to the charges.
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the defendant wad first arraigned on May 11, 2018 and went through trial before he was convicted.
